Hearts and Minds Learning Community is hiring!

Lead Educator - Early Childhood

LOCATION

Hearts and Minds Learning Community is located in the Roseville/New Brighton, Minnesota area. We have a large outdoor space and a small, dedicated indoor learning space.

DETAILS

The Hearts and Minds Learning Community is currently hiring an early childhood education lead for our mixed-kindergarten program for students ages 3-6.

The Early Childhood Education Lead will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with the HMLC founder to create and implement a learning structure for the mixed-age kindergarten program for September 2022 - May 2023.

  • Creating individualized learning goals for participating learners (with family input and support).

  • Implementing learning and play activities when HMLC is in session, including set-up and take-down of any supplies outside of the classroom.

  • Tracking the learning journeys of participating learners.

  • Providing direction to and working with family volunteers.

  • The HMLC program is play-based and the goal is to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Much of that time can be unstructured play, but we'll also need LOADS of imagination and organization of activities based on the interests of participating learners.

  • There will be 1-2 family volunteers each day to provide support and assist the lead educator, as needed.

  • At this time, the majority of participating/interested families prefer a three day schedule, 5 hours per day. However, the lead educator will be paid for an hour before and an hour after start time to ensure for prep time, clean-up, learner assessments, etc. There is a STRONG possibility for additional hours (approximately 35 hours/week) if additional families choose the option for five days/week. The goal is for this role to grow into a full time position in the future.

SALARY AND EXPERIENCE

  • Pay range between $25-$30/hour. We offer Paid Time Off (PTO) as well as a health insurance stipend, if desired/needed.

  • Start date in the end of August (two weeks before the program begins) with a program start date in the beginning of September.

  • Early childhood education classroom experience required (preschool/kindergarten/elementary) -- student teaching is great too! Montessori, Reggio and/or nature school focus a plus.

    WHAT WE'RE ABOUT

The Hearts and Minds Learning Community is small, flexible and creative. We would LOVE to work with someone at the stage in their career where they're interested in laying the foundation to do learning and school a bit differently! If you're someone who wants a lot of autonomy and a supportive partnership instead of having to deal with established systems and layers of administration -- this could be a dream!!

BIPOC, AAPI and LGBTQ+ applicants especially encouraged to apply.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Many of the participating families have children or family members with medical conditions that put them at higher risk for damage from COVID, so a particular focus of this program is safety.

  • There will be a vaccine requirement for all participating adults and kids. Masks will be required at all time indoors, masks may be requested outdoors (outdoor masking will be assessed based on community transmission information). We're making sure to focus on proper ventilation and filtration for any indoor time. There *may* be a rapid testing requirement for all participants, volunteers and employees (TBD).
